Pumpkins Fall From The Sky at Watsonville Airport
November 4, 2007, 12-4 pm
The Santa Cruz Flying Club located at the Watsonville Airport once again celebrates the passing of Halloween by inviting the community to join them in dropping pumpkins onto a target next to the runway on Sunday, November 4 at 12 p.m.
Each year the Santa Cruz Flying Club welcomes members of the community for a BBQ where participants take their turns going up in small aircraft, practicing their aim dropping pumpkins, taking pictures, and enjoying the spectacle of watching the attempts. For the pilots among the crowd, doing their best at a “Spot Landing Contest” where they attempt to guide their airplane to a perfect touchdown on a line drawn across the runway.
For community members interested in learning about aviation, curious how to fly airplanes, or considering beginning flying lessons themselves, this is an excellent opportunity for an Introduction to Flight. Our professional flight instructors will show you some of the basics and let you sit in the pilots seat as you fly a circle around the Watsonville airport.
A raffle for a free hour long flying lesson will take place and the winners of the Pumpkin Drop and Spot Landing Contests will receive special prizes. There is no charge for the flight if you bring your own pumpkin (small ones please) or we'll supply them for $10.00.
The Santa Cruz Flying Club is a full-service flight school offering training from the very first flights up through Instrument, Commercial and beyond. The club atmosphere aids in learning to fly by sharing experiences with others, going on group flights to interesting destinations, and sharing flight expenses with other pilots. For more information about this or other events visit the club online at http://www.scfc.org or by calling 831-722-4580.
Have a trip idea?
Part of being a "flying club" is the opportunity to gather a group of people easily to do something fun! Interested in a BBQ at Oceano, lunch at Columbia or Pine Mountain Lake? How about a nice dinner at Napa or South Lake Tahoe? Within just the past months club members have done each of these trips! If you have a trip idea just visit the message forums and name some locations and dates.
Regular Club Meetings
The third Wednesday of each month at 6:40 pm is an open combined Board & CFI meeting. If you have any questions or comments with anything about the club, please come by and let us know about it.
